A parent’s checklist for AI courses and camps for grades 9–12 students: what to ask about assessment, safeguarding, data, and what your child produces.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most important question to ask an AI programme?
What does the learner have to produce that an AI could not produce for them? If the deliverable is a document, a slide deck, or a working program, the programme cannot verify who did the work — and therefore cannot tell you what your child learned.
What should I ask about my child’s data?
Ask what is collected, where it is stored, whether it is used to train models, who can see it, and how to delete it. For a programme serving children, ask specifically how guardian consent is recorded and whether the child can withdraw.
How long should an AI programme for teenagers be?
Long enough for a habit to form and be tested more than once. Single-day workshops can be inspiring but rarely change behaviour. Look for repeated cycles of build, check, and defend across several weeks rather than a one-off project.
