Why Teenagers Need Public Speaking and AI Judgement Together

AI can write the document. It cannot answer the question that follows. Why spoken defence and AI judgement are one capability for teenagers, not two subjects.
Frequently asked questions
Why does public speaking matter more now that AI exists?
Because written output no longer identifies its author. Institutions have responded by reinstating live verification — Princeton moved a 133-year take-home examination tradition to oral defence, and Google and McKinsey restored in-person interview stages. An unscripted spoken answer is now the practical proof of understanding.
At what age should a teenager start practising spoken defence?
As soon as they are producing work with AI assistance, which for most children is around 12–13. The skill is built by frequency rather than intensity: short, regular explanations under mild pressure work better than occasional formal presentations.
Should the practice be in English?
Where English is a goal, yes — at least some of the time. Speaking is the weakest measured English skill in Indonesia (447 against reading at 491 in the 2025 EF index), and it is the one skill AI tools do not build for a learner.
